Biography: Bryan A. Amaral

Bryan Amaral is an accomplished Chief Executive, visionary entrepreneur, Clienteling, Loyalty and CRM expert with more than 30 years of luxury retail and retail technology experience. In his leadership roles at Retaligent, Symbol and ImageWare, Amaral worked with such notable global brands as Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Harrods, Hugo Boss, Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren Polo, Brooks Brothers, The Custom Shop, Grupo Sanborns, Alfred Dunhill, Loro Piana, Hudsons Bay Company, Shiseido,  HEB, Calvin Klein and many others. Additionally,  Mr. Amaral has forged numerous alliance and channel relationships, most notably with Microsoft, NCR, Avanade, Tectura, Charteris, Fujitsu, Wincor Nixdorf, IBM, and Teradata.

His passion for customer-centricity and  high-touch retailing began in the early 1980’s when Mr. Amaral founded Executive Wardrobe Concepts, Inc.,  an exclusive menswear and custom apparel business with sales presence in Philadelphia, New York, Los Angeles, Boston and Atlantic City. At EWC, Amaral defined an array of operational practices and employee behaviors that would ensure extraordinary customer service. By 1984, understanding the promise of computer technology, he had designed and coded one of the retail industry’s first known in-store Customer Relationship Management and Mass Customization apparel systems in order to improve management of EWC’s operation.

In the late 80’s, Amaral recognized that an emerging internet would fundamentally change the brick and mortar retail environment. He believed that if retailers were going to compete, their associates needed access to technology-based tools that would help them manage their customers, improve associate productivity, provide visibility into product inventory and support various in-store processes.  In 1990, leveraging his technology experience from EWC, he founded and became CEO of ImageWare Technologies, Inc. with the purpose of developing and selling in-store retail systems that incorporated his knowledge of technology embodied with best practices of “one-to-one” retailing. From 1990 through 2002, ImageWare deployed solutions with over 150 small and medium-sized retailers throughout North America.

In January 2003 the company was acquierd by Symbol Technologies, Inc. where he served as the Vice President of the Clientele & Personalization Solutions Group. At Symbol, he led a team in developing next generation mobile, POS, PC and kiosk-based applications for an array of general merchandise retailers.

Shortly after joining, Symbol underwent a management and strategy change that lead their eventual merger with Motorola.  In January of 2005, Mr. Amaral successfully lead the spin-off of his division and founded Retaligent Solutions, Inc. This new venture was focused on providing the technology tools and expertise that enable global retailers to differentiate themselves with extraordinary customer service through end-to-end Clienteling, Loyalty and CRM solutions.

Under Mr. Amaral’s leadership, Retaligent  developed and brought multiple product lines to the international market: Clarience 1:1 , a robust in-store suite of solutions that includes PC, POS, Kiosk, PDA and Tablet-based Clienteling, Guided Selling, Inventory Location, and Wish List/Gift Registry applications.  In 2010, partnering with Microsofts Worldwide Retail Dynamics team, Mr. Amaral launched Retaligent’s latest solution, Charisma 1:1. This cloud-based product incorporates decades of customer-centricity expertise and provides an unequalled end-to-end retail Clienteling, Loyalty and CRM solution, built on the Microsoft Dynamics CRM platform. The product was formally launched in the America’s at NRF in January 2011 and  EMEA  at EuroShop 2011 a month later. (Click for Launch videos)  At Retaligent, Amaral personally lead the design of many new enhancements including Retaligent’s Personal Shopper Application: a platform enabled consumer iPhone application that leverages core functionality of the Clarience and Charisma platforms.
